Two things an author actually needs from a dictation line: stop without losing the work, and fix something already sent. Both are keypresses on the phone — no app, no callback to the office, no re-dictating the report from the beginning.
Press 2 and hang up. Nothing is sent for transcription and no confirmation number is issued. Call back within 7 days and the line offers three choices — continue exactly where you stopped, discard the held audio and start a new dictation, or complete it now and start a fresh one in the same call.
If the author never calls back, the dictation is submitted automatically at the end of the hold window, so the work is not lost.
Press 8 at the start of a call to hear the dictations still open to change — the newest five from the last five days that no transcriptionist has started. Play one, then insert new audio at a spoken point, re-record the ending, cut it short, or append to the end.
The original file is untouched until the author saves, and the job locks the moment a transcriptionist picks it up — so nobody transcribes audio that is about to change.
